Think about your first bike: It was likely your first taste of freedom, and your first tug of responsibility. Whether or not you had a plan–or even roads–you were ready to roll. For kids in Outreach-affiliated communities, bikes are a both a practical means of navigating unpredictable road conditions and a nice metaphor for our approach to empowerment: Combining human-centric determination, effort and balance to build inertia and blaze a path toward whatever destination they have in mind (once they’re home from school).
A bike means kids who otherwise can’t get to school now have a fun, free way to reach their destination.
